JDJ BAND

Welcome:07/03/09

Take it with a pinch of salt, ladies and gentleman. Part of you (if you ever listen to this genius) should like it above a lot of other stuff. Why? Well for one, there's no shit and pure fun and even though there is a lot of premeditated swagger forced into the vocals and it's mostly all over the place and blissfully shitting on your shoes, there is something endearing about it. This is an old rock 'n' roll stray dog that you will smile at as it slobbers on your face and wees in your washing basket. - Gary Muday - metal4life (Jun 18, 2006)

NEW REVIEW FOR THE JDJ BAND HUSSIESKUNK

JDJ Band - www.jdjband.com Cruel Way (released 2006) RPG Records JD Jackson, drummer of the much heralded band The Destroyed, is stepping out from behind the drum set, offering up his very own, very first solo record. The disc is wrtten, produced and released by JD through his own record label, RPG Records. DIY lives forever! JD has been in the punk scene for the better part of thirty years, has seen everyone, done everything and sincerely embraces the genre as well as any one of his contemporaries, both former and current. On this disc, JD blesses the listener with ten tracks of gritty recordings of himself performing every instrument and vocal channel, it's actually quite remarkable. JD's vocal approach isn't so much singing as it's story-telling over musical accompaniment. You get the handle of his vocal style right off the bat with "Combat Zone Girl", and how effective the basic offering of has stripped back voice can be. It's really a DIY effort, that shows in the production, and the best part is that is was intentional and pulled off so well, that it actually helps date the sound to the late 70s as the first wave of New York and UK punk was drifting away. JD's sound certainly fits within that realm and has contributed to that historical point in time...with this disc, it sounds as though he longs to return to those good days. The music on the disc harks back to those seedy underground cclubs, where often times bands were still discovering the sounds that their instruments would make. Although, JD's quite the ace on the drum set, the guitars skills he showers us with on this album come off as rather basic on several of the tracks on here. I like what he has put together, even though it seems a bit dated. One thing I'm not hip to on the album, which adds to the dated sound is the echos of the vocals that fill all of the tracks on the disc. It's undeniable, it's an old effect from days gone by, and only used sparingly today. I really wish that the echo would have been erased on thsi release, as it would have really made the album feel more current. Perhaps it's a way to add depth to JD's chant/talking over the music in the background... Dunno, but it does have a dramatic effect over the whole of the album. For fans of early NYC club punk and crunchy first wave punk guitar rock, this debut release from the JDJ Band will fit well into your collection. -MG
